Coastline Collaboration Experiment -Grade 7-9

Activity Introduction

Learners will create a model of a coastline and experiment with different methods, both man-made and natural, that can make coastlines more resilient to climate related storm surges.

Grade: 7-9

Resources Required: Containers, sand, water, materials to make coastline protections (rocks, bricks, plants etc), timing device, cooldrink bottle, ruler or tape measure

Key Concepts & Skills: Coastline resilience, protecting coastlines, natural disasters

Duration: Initial setup: 1 hour, experiment and write up: 2 hours

Level of teacher facilitation: High
