Electrifying Eco-schools

On Saturday, 19 educators from 12 different CTEET supported Eco-schools ventured out to Somerset West and Grabouw for an electrifying day to learn all about ENERGY and explore how to include energy-related topics into lessons. The day began with an informative session around the different types of energy, with a focus on renewable vs. non-renewable energy sources. Great discussions were had by all while unpacking the positives and negatives of energy sources, the importance of developing renewable resources in South Africa and how different energy sources impact the environment. The session ended off with a competitive climate change game! The teachers were treated to an excursion to the Palmiet Visitors Centre to learn all about the Palmiet Pumped Storage Scheme. The tour of the Hydro plant was extremely informative and the teachers were blown away by the experience. Sparking a passion for, and a renewed sense of determination to save energy at home and at school was the take-away of the day. Thank you to everyone who joined us!
