Gauteng Highlight: Eco-Club Learners Lead Selcourt Primary’s Gardening Journey
This year, Selcourt Primary School launched its school garden with the Eco-Club learners leading the way. From the very beginning, learners showed great enthusiasm and were actively involved in every step of the process by removing weeds, preparing the soil, planting seeds, transplanting seedlings, and taking responsibility for maintaining and watering the garden.
Although the garden faced challenges during the first quarter, the persistence and dedication of both learners and staff paid off. With consistent care and teamwork, the garden began to thrive, and the school proudly celebrated its first harvest of potatoes and beans. The excitement among the learners was evident as they prepared and enjoyed fried chips made from their very own harvest, a rewarding moment that highlighted the value of hard work, patience, and sustainable food production. This success boosted learner morale and inspired the school to expand and strengthen its gardening initiatives.
