Beautiful Bacteria Experiment – Grade 8-11

Activity Introduction

Learners will do an experiment to test the amount and growth rate of bacteria from gathered from different surfaces, recording their results and answering related questions on the Worksheets provided.

Grade: 8-11

Resources Required: Pre-poured agar plates (to prepare your own agar you will need: 1 – 4 beef stock cubes, 1 – 1.5 packets unflavoured gelatine, 2 tsps sugar, 1 cup of water), petri dishes / foil muffin cups), cotton buds, a cardboard box just big enough to hold the agar plates, tape, some old newspaper (to wrap around the petri dishes when you dispose of them)

Duration: 1 hour
