Activity Introduction

Learners discover how to make their own water wheels and investigate the basics of hydropower.

Grade: 5-7

Resources Required: Water, bowl, 2 paper plates, 6 plastic bottle caps, cardboard, Prestik or sticky tack, skewer, 2 plastic rulers, sticky tape, glue

Key Concepts & Skills: Renewable and non-renewable sources of energy, Natural resources and conservation, Energy and movement, Systems to solve problems

Duration: 2 X 1-hour sessions

Level of teacher facilitation: Moderate - High

Curriculum links: Natural Science & Technology (Gr 5,6,7), Social Science (Gr 7 Geography - Natural Resources)
