Target 1
The planned target for 2024 is to expand the existing indigenous garden at the school. The garden extension will be a large project covering 800 square metres. The extension will be designed by students of the eco club with the input of other students and teachers at the school. The preparation and planting of the garden will involve other eco clubs and sustainable schools as well as civic groups from Steenberg. The garden extension will make large enhancements to the indigenous plant biodiversity of the garden with the planting of flowering plants, shrubs and trees. It has also be suggested that the extension includes a vegetable garden that could contribute to the feeding scheme. As part of a phasing plan, infrastructure will also be established in the garden with a particular hope for an outdoor classroom in the future that can be used for teaching and workshops for the school.
