World Water Day – Accelerating Change
World Water Day is celebrated on the 22nd of March every year, raising crucial awareness for the global clean water crisis. This year is no different. The theme for World Water Day 2023 is Accelerating Change.
At Sustainable Schools we are dedicated to doing as much as we can to accelerate change. One of the ways we do this is by equipping teachers, schools and partners with the necessary resources to educate and empower themselves and their learners about the importance of clean water, how we can protect ecosystems that clean water for our use and how we can save as much water as possible to ensure there will be enough to go around in years to come!
We have recently been hard at work refreshing the resources available on our online hub. Resources are CAPS-aligned and relevant to Focus Areas we have chosen to guide the implementation of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) in South African schools.
Being Water Month, this month we’re focused on highlighting SDG 6: Clean water and sanitation and our related resources on water! Check out our lesson plans on the topic Hidden Water. This series explores the “invisible” water that goes into making just about everything we use on a day-to-day basis. Find out how much water it takes to make a pair of jeans or a cup of coffee and have your learners calculate their personal water footprints. These lessons also include many tips on how we can each start saving water, one tap-turn or food-swap at a time.

Let’s accelerate change together! Join our community of sustainably-minded people, committed to implementing small changes that make a lasting positive difference to the environment.
