Eco-buddies meet Wendy and Wally
The Village Heights Community Centre eco-club, known as the Eco-Buddies enjoyed learning how to make wise water-saving decisions on Thursday during the Easter School Holidays. CTEET Educators, Tammy and Justine, presented their ‘Wendy and Wally’ water-saving play to the Eco-Buddies. This play tells the story of Wally who is a water waster and Wendy who is a wise water-saver!
The learners then ended off with a hands-on craft activity where they turned old, re-used milk bottles into Easter egg baskets for the upcoming festive weekend!
Village Heights is an informal settlement backing onto the western boundary of False Bay Nature Reserve, in Lavender Hill on the Cape Flats. The Eco-Buddies currently consist of 30 learners who take part in organised outings and trips, environmental projects and who meet at the Community Centre after school every day for a sandwich and assistance with homework. CTEET continues to regularly work with the Eco-Buddies, encouraging them to care for their environment and exposing them to environmental issues and conservation sites around Cape Town.
