Cleaning Up for World Environment Day

Cleaning Up For World Environment Day

Each year, 5 June is celebrated as World Environment Day in order to raise awareness about caring for the environment and environmental threats. This year, we teamed up with the Friends of Zeekoevlei & Rondevlei and hosted a clean up at the vlei to celebrate World Environment Day. About 50 children from our Conservation Leadership Programme (CLP) and the Leisure Education Trust joined in the clean up, enthusiastically clearing litter from the edge of the vlei, the river bank and the surrounding area. Various forms of plastic, tyres, bedding and even car parts were removed from this natural area! CLP learner, Erin, said that they were shocked that people still dump waste near the vlei, and they were trying to do their bit for the environment. Well done to all the young environmental champions who joined in the day, it is encouraging to see this next generation of leaders standing up for nature.
