Marine And Coast Workshop

A new theme recently introduced to the Eco-schools Programme, Marine and Coast, was the focus for our second Eco-schools workshop of 2019. The Save our Seas (SOS) Shark Education Centre in Kalk Bay hosted the workshop on Saturday 25 May, sharing their amazing venue and resources with over 31 eco-educators from 20 different schools. The educators were given an opportunity to explore the plethora of interactive displays at SOS, where information on the marine environment and inspiration is showcased at every turn. An introduction to the theme kick started the day and Clova Mabin of SOS shared information with the educators on the ocean and rocky shores found on our doorstep. An array of activities allowed the educators to get a sense of how they can incorporate the theme into their day-to-day teaching, aligned to CAPS through a multitude of teaching techniques. After a delicious lunch and a morning filled with interactive activities, the educators headed across to Dalebrook to explore the rocky shores and further engage with the marine environment. The aim of the International Eco-Schools programme is to encourage whole-school commitment to improving environmental knowledge and practices. In 2019, we are supporting over 30 schools registered on the programme and host a number of Teacher Development workshops throughout the year.
